Verizon gets aggressive on mobile broadband | CNET News.com

Verizon Wireless is turning up the heat on the nascent wireless broadband market as it expands into new cities and slashes prices 25 percent.

On Monday, the wireless provider, owned by Verizon Communications and Vodafone, announced that it is lowering prices on its wireless broadband service to $60 from the previous price of $80 a month. It also announced that it has expanded the service–which is based on a technology called EV-DO, or Evolution-Data Optimized–into seven new markets, bringing the total number of markets served to 60.

The new price is only available to customers who also subscribe to a Verizon Wireless voice plan, and it requires customers to sign a two-year contract.

This timing is perfect. I am going to ask to get a phone with EV-DO from work. The price cut works in my favor. Lets see if I can pull it off.

This is cool. You have to check out the video of this illusion. If I get a office and some spare cash this is going in it. You have to see it to believe it.

Movie Rant

Filed under: Rants, Something to Talk About — The Mad Admin @ 6:16 pm

It isn’t the consumer killing the movie theaters, it is a slow suicide. How can they expect us to pay $10 per ticket $12 for popcorn and soda to sit in a theater and watch 20 minutes of commercials then 20 minutes of movie commercials (called previews) and not think we are going to get feed up with it.

That tea party in Boston during the 1700’s wasn’t because people hated tea they hated the providers and the price. Same thing with Hollywood. We enjoy the flicks, we just hate getting ripped off. If there was a ship in a harbor full of tickets and popcorn I tell you the Rivers would run yellow with greasy butter substitute.

Thats all I have to say about that.

Optical Illusions and Visual Phenomena

Optical Illusions and Visual Phenomena

These pages demonstrate visual phenomena, called »optical illusions« or »visual illusions«. The latter is more appropriate, because most effects have their basis in the visual pathway, not in the optics of the eye. I selected these based on relative novelty and interactivity, and will expand the explanations when I find the time, to the degree that these phenomena are really understood. Any nice and thoughtful comment welcome.

OK it is Friday and this is not TEch or IT related but I just wasted ten minutes there so I thought you might like it. Have a great weekend.

Hackers Attack Via Chinese Web Sites

Filed under: News, Rants, Something to Talk About — The Mad Admin @ 6:46 pm

Hackers Attack Via Chinese Web Sites.

Web sites in China are being used heavily to target computer networks in the Defense Department and other U.S. agencies, successfully breaching hundreds of unclassified networks, according to several U.S. officials.

Classified systems have not been compromised, the officials added. But U.S. authorities remain concerned because, as one official said, even seemingly innocuous information, when pulled together from various sources, can yield useful intelligence to an adversary.

This is a country that we give so much to, aid, favored trade status, our jobs…How long are we going to let the Government do what is in the interest of other countries and big business while it ignores the needs of its own people and pretends things like this are not happening.

China is the biggest thief in the world. We should make them get in line with the world not reward them for stealing and spying and don’t even get me started on human rights and slave labor.

Japanese House-Sitter Robot Hits Stores - Yahoo! News

TOKYO - Worried about leaving your house empty while you go on
vacation? Japan has the answer: a house-sitter robot armed with a
digital camera, infrared sensors and a videophone.

The price is $2600. I think I could wire my whole house with web cams and sensors and an alarm system for that much money. But then I would not get to put up the BEWARE of Robot sign 8)
