If you have a system that needs protection from viruses and spyware but don’t have the cash there is still a good option.

GRISOFT has free versions that are very good, and they are free.

New powerful anti-spyware!

GRISOFT, the maker of award-winning AVG Anti-Virus, announced the release of ewido anti-spyware 4.0 to expand its antivirus and firewall offering to include comprehensive malware protection against rapidly growing threats such as spyware, adware, dialers, keyloggers, trojans and worms.

100% Virus Detection by AVG

GRISOFT once again received the VB100% Award by independent malware advisor, Virus Bulletin, in June 2006. AVG Anti-Virus proved itself by detecting all In the Wild viruses, while generating no false positives, during both on-demand and on-access scanning in Virus Bulletin’s comparative tests.

Companies don’t know how to measure IT Department’s Value…So true

Filed under: I.T., Something to Talk About — The Mad Admin @ 10:03 am

Good Article

If most companies really know how to measure the business value of IT, we’d see a clear consensus on which metrics to use, and IT executives would feel those metrics accurately capture business value. But our data indicates just the opposite: Companies use many different metrics, and the most popular metrics are used more often by companies that aren’t very good at measuring value. Companies that have developed their own metrics fare somewhat better, but many of those are also dissatisfied. It appears companies aren’t picking the right metrics, don’t know how to go about measuring, or both.

I read and Agree with this article. Good read.

Filed under: Blackberry, Geek, Google, Something to Talk About — The Mad Admin @ 8:50 am

Google Maps For Mobiles

Combining directions, maps, and satellite imagery, Google Maps is a free download that lets you find local hangouts and businesses across town or across the country — right from your phone.

Detailed directions: Whether you plan to walk or drive, your route is displayed on the map itself, together with step-by-step directions.

Integrated search results:
Local business locations and contact information appear all in one place, integrated on your map.

Easily movable maps:
Interactive, draggable maps let you zoom in or out, and move in all directions so you can orient yourself visually.

Satellite imagery:
Get a bird’s eye view of your desired location.

Real-time traffic:New! See where the congestion is, and estimate delays in over 30 major US metropolitan areas.

I have tried this on a Blackberry 7250 and the application rocks!!! I use it when going to side jobs in the city. I never know where the buildings are by address but now I enter the address and know exactly where I am going.

TheMadAdmin give it a thumbs up. Thumbs Up (Big)

Verizon Wireless’ EVDO Upgrade Coming

Filed under: I.T., Something to Talk About, Verizon — The Mad Admin @ 3:53 pm

Verizon Wireless’ EVDO has won itself many fans, and those fans will have a lot to cheer about later this summer or early fall, when the company rolls out an upgrade to its wireless data network.

Verizon’s key supplier Nortel Networks today announced that it will be supplying gear to Verizon and has finished trials successfully. In comparison to today’s EVDO technology, the Rev A technology is able provide peak data rates of up to 3.1 Mbps on the forward link (information flowing from the cellular base station to the subscriber) and up to 1.8 Mbps on the reverse link (information flowing from the subscriber back to the cellular base station).
